Welcome to the project.

We are kind as children, so why do we struggle so much as adults to spread the same kindness?

At One Thing Project, we want to re-educate people in what it means and how to be kind. We also want to teach people that it’s ok to be kind without receiving something in return. Kindness is a selfless act, but one act of kindness can change people’s lives more than we know.

What we do know is that there are many positive effects to be had from being compassionate and caring. However, within our communities, certain social beliefs and stigmas remain regarding the giving and receiving of help and kindness.

Our Project Mission.

The One Thing Project is a vehicle created to help address mental health issues, educate people around the effects of social anxieties and how this can be solved or helped via kindness in people’s everyday life.

By reintroducing kindness into the people of the community's live's, we want to create a shift in the current mindsets about giving and support. Helping people feel comfortable and safe to open up about their day-to-day struggles and mental health issues.

Forging new avenues for open communication.

Who we are?

The One Thing Project is a group of young professionals that have all witnessed the effects of mental health issues and suicide in our communities and are standing up to make a change.

What we have identified is, there are a certain set of social beliefs within our community around the giving and receiving of assistance. We understand these believes can prevent the effective spread of love, kindness, and compassion.

All of which being key aspects in caring for peoples mental health.

Why?

The OTP team have been apart a range of small random act of kindness initiatives within the community over the past few years. During this time we have witnessed a positive change from the feedback received and understand not only the fulfilment it brought members involved but the pathways it has created for open conversation around mental health.

The decision was made and the building of a kindness community had begun. Recruitment of like-minded people started, plans to promote our vision and start taking responsibility for our own community's future commenced.

Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.

The Problem

Have you ever had a thought that sounded something like this:

“It can be weird to be too nice to strangers”.

“People might get offended by offering help”.

“I don’t want my kind gesture to be taken the wrong way”.

These beliefs are actively inhibiting the full potential of community and peer-peer support that can be achieved and we are here to address it.

Let’s make a difference together.

The One Thing Project is actively engaging people as the community face, leading by example in the way to challenging these beliefs, building awareness, conducting fundraisers and activities to enable community members to be a part of the positive change.

We strive to acknowledge community members and businesses leading the way in spreading our vision, ensuring the small acts never go unnoticed. The project promotes the kindness that already exists in our community, supports each other and directs such support in a way it can be most effective in helping people.

Spreading the love.

The founding members have been fortunate enough to grow up in this amazing area (Gold Coast,QLD) and have seen our community members and businesses draw together in times of need.

We know from experience there are so many others wanting to help people struggling with day-to-day issues but sometimes do not know where to start.

We are taking the step to direct that kindness, reignite those old school community values, take care of our neighbours and help address mental health through simple acts of kindness and support, alleviating day-to-day stresses wherever possible.
